Matthew Allard was born in New Haven, Connecticut and developed an interest in nature, architecture, and design at a young age. This attraction to nature has led to the pursuit of capturing and sharing moments through photography. Formal education had been separate from photography until the fall of 2007 when Matthew attended the course: “The Art of Black & White Photography” at Tunxis Community College in Farmington, Connecticut. It was there that he learned to appreciate the intricacies and potentials of the fine black and white print, and began the journey of learning the craft of traditional photography. Matthew began working exclusively with a large format 4x5 inch view camera in the winter of 2009, and continues to use the highest quality silver gelatin black and white materials to produce hand-made photographs.
